Lisa Clauson
Executive Director
Lisa Clauson is Executive Director for Community Labor United. Lisa founded CLU in 2004 in collaboration with the Greater Boston Labor Council, local unions and community organizations. Prior to CLU, Lisa spent thirteen years doing community organizing primarily in Boston as the Head Organizer of Massachusetts ACORN. Lisa helped organize campaigns winning Boston's Living Wage Ordinance, increasing the state minimum wage and earned income tax credit and winning a strong state-wide anti-predatory lending bill. Lisa was awarded the Greater Boston Labor Council's Leadership Award in 2006 for her work with CLU.
Darlene Lombos
Organizing Director
Darlene Lombos is CLU's Organizing Director. Darlene joined CLU's staff in the fall of 2006. Darlene brings ten years experience in community and youth organizing, leadership development and coalition-building to this work. She has been organizing around community issues since 1996, including police accountability and home daycare justice at Direct Action for Rights and Equality in Providence, RI as well as transportation equity, gentrification and displacement and education reform at Sisters in Action for Power in Portland, OR. Darlene spent 2005 volunteering for GABRIELA in the Philippines and for MST (Landless Workers Movement) in Brazil. Darlene speaks Tagalog and Portuguese.
Kalila Barnett
Senior Organizer
Kalila Barnett is a Senior Organizer at CLU. Kalila joined CLU's staff in the fall of 2006. Prior to CLU, Kalila spent six years organizing around community development and affordable housing issues in the Roxbury and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods of Boston. Kalila was also the field director for a local city council campaign in 2005 and she is on the board of the Roxbury-based, environmental justice organization, ACE. Kalila is fluent in Spanish.
Mary Jo Connelly
Research Director
Mary Jo Connelly is CLU's Research Director. Mary Jo joined CLU's staff in 2005. Mary Jo has conducted research and policy analysis on economic and workforce development for the Massachusetts labor movement for the past ten years, previously at the Labor Resource Center, UMass Boston. She has also carried out evaluation reserach on publicly funded adult education and training programs, and has conducted and published research on issues for working women when she was Director of the Cincinnati office of 9to5, National Association of Working Women.
At UMass Boston, Mary Jo taught undergraduate courses in community-based research and graduate courses at UMass Amherst in economic development. She has also taught popular education courses to many different groups. Mary Jo has been an elected union officer for UAW Local 2322 and SEIU Local 509. She holds a Master's in Education and an ABD for a doctorate in Adult and International Education at UMass Amherst.
